You know how nothing’s real unless it’s scheduled in your calendar?
Well this same theory applies to taking action. Unless you’ve given yourself some goals, strategized a plan of attack, and visualized the outcome like I spoke about in this article, you’re making it waaay harder than it needs to be.
And I’m all about simple.
In this case, simple requires a little work up front for a big payoff later. Kinda like “passive” income. It’s not necessarily easy, but it’s the difference between accomplishing your goals and continuing with the status quo.
And if you’re anything like me, you have an aversion to the status quo.
What you need is a plan of action. Since action follows from clarity, start by answering the following two questions.
1. Ask yourself this: “What do I really want?”
Is it to feel lighter on your feet and have more energy for your career or family? How about to be a role model of wellness for your children? Or at networking functions, thus drawing in more clients?
Or perhaps you want to be seen as an expert and begin speaking at conferences – in that case, body-confidence will make you more powerful on stage.
Open up a word doc on your computer or sharpen your pencil and answer this question in a stream of consciousness. Tap into your inner desires and what lights you up.
I guarantee what you really want isn’t flat abs or a svelte figure.
That’s just a stand-in for what truly matters to you.
2. “What do I need to do to accomplish this?”
Once you’ve answered the above question, comb through everything you wrote, pulling out areas ripe for change, and create your own plan of action.
Keep it simple and easily doable for small wins.
As you create your strategy, filter it through the mantra “Balance Not Perfection” we talked about last week.
When a recent coaching client sent me her current habits, goals, and challenges in response to my Insight Questionnaire, I could immediately see simple and targeted actions which would lead to noticeable results.

What she really wanted was to feel light, energetic, and in tune with her body. She was already eating a pretty clean vegan diet. I did, however, notice room for extra veggies to free up digestion energy and naturally reduce the amount of heavier foods she was eating.
So my first recommendation was simply to add fresh greens to every meal – to her smoothie in the morning and as a salad with her cooked grains and beans for lunch and dinner. Then I continued to go through her responses like that, strategically targeting small but powerful actions until I had an easy-to-follow custom Healthy Living Strategy designed just for her.
She wrote to me a week later and could barely contain her excitement for how much better she was feeling thanks to the huge shift this plan generated.
